Mesh

I redesigned Mesh to streamline project staffing by clarifying core interactions, reducing feature bloat, and creating a simple favoriting model that empowered both leaders and team members.

Mesh helped leaders staff faster and gave members a clear way to join meaningful projects; I redesigned Mesh iOS and MeshPanel desktop app to focus on the interactions that mattered most.

Challenge

Confusion born from feature bloat

Mesh launched with little user testing, leaving features confusing and underused. The "preferences" tool was especially problematic: users wanted to express interest in projects, but the design didn't support it. Leaders also needed a way to bookmark talent.

Divergence

Two needs, one broken model

Through interviews and prototype testing, I uncovered two distinct needs: members wanted to favorite projects, leaders wanted to favorite people. That insight reshaped the product's information architecture and guided the redesign.

Mesh Favoriting Tested many variations of favoriting and bookmark interactions, before landing on distinct patterns for expressing interest in projects and following them

Ideation

Designing towards clarity and feasbility

I sketched flows, created UX constructs, and collaborated with PMs and engineers to test options and ensure the solution balanced vision with delivery constraints.

Convergence

Testing into effortless understanding

Interactive prototypes revealed immediate clarity. Users understood favoriting without explanation, and feedback drove refinements in copy and navigation until the experience felt natural.

Solution

Favoriting where it matters most

Favoriting was embedded directly where it mattered: projects for members, people for leaders. IA diagrams highlighted the shift from bloated to streamlined, supported by polished screens for Mesh iOS and MeshPanel.

Outcome

Faster staffing, smarter discovery

The redesign delivered on Mesh's promise: easier project discovery, faster staffing decisions, and stronger alignment with user needs. Stakeholders recognized it as a critical step toward adoption.

Takeaways

Small shifts, big impact

Early validation prevents complexity creep, and this project strengthened my ability to balance empathy with constraints while driving meaningful product clarity.
